King is dead, long live the Jean-Pierre Léaud! Critics of the canneńskich projections Death of Louis XIV wrote that this life (sic) the role of the iconic actor of the French New Wave, which in Cannes received a lifetime achievement award. His face, maturing along with the subsequent films Truffaut, Godard, Eustache'a, Tsai Ming-liang, at the Serra freezes, fades and dies in gold and purple fabric, wrapped in sheepskin absurd wigs. Serra shun naturalism focuses on the contrast between the immobility of the patient and inexorably progressive disease between body digested distribution and trying to stay within the royal ritual gesture. It creates a scene inspired by the seventeenth-century painting, filled with whispering servants and a warm candle light. Screenplay based on medical reports and memoirs of Saint-Simon reports on the last days of the Sun King, dying of gangrene in the presence of helpless doctors. As usual Serra, a leading neomodernisty European cinema, historical context is just a pretext to tell the spirit Bressonowskiego "pure theater" on the universal aspects of human life.
