In the small Roma community of Ciambra in Calabria there is a 14-year-old named Pio. The boy, like a shadow, follows his older brother Cosimo, from whom he learns the art of survival on the street. He turns to adult men with whom he tries to drink and smoke on equal footing, wanting to be attracted to male elders. His everyday life consists of doing murky business with a local underworld. In excitement and impatience he waits for the moment when the symbolic ritual of the passage will take place and the boy will become a man - even at the price of betrayal and disloyalty. The only determinant of morality are the orders imposed on the part of the community, which is the total loyalty and loyalty.
Probably the most important feature of Carpignano's film production is the avoidance of judgment. The director concentrated on showing compassion instead of making judgments. This is not a movie, which is intended to be a stunner with images of poverty and slums. This is an impressive and coherent gallery of outsiders portraits, accompanied by a fascinating sequence of ritual scenes. David Rooney - Hollywood Reporter
