"Legions" is the most expensive national super-production since the times of "City 44" - a breathtaking tale of love, youth, fight and victory, made using the latest film techniques, with battle scenes as yet in Polish cinema never been.In a word, adventure cinema at its best, full of emotions and real emotions.The film as one of 19 titles was presented in the Main Competition of the 44th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
"Legions" is a universal story about friendship, dreams, affection and growing up in difficult times. The great story in the film is the background for the love story taking place in the foreground, in which are involved: Józek (Sebastian Fabijański) - deserter from the tsarist army, intelligence agent of the First Brigade - Ola (Wiktoria Wolańska) from the League of Women Ambulance and Tadek (Bartosz Gelner), Ola's fiancé, uhlan and member of the Shooting Teams. Their meeting will start with a turbulent romance that will put the protagonists' accounts to a great test. In addition to fictional characters, whose stories were modeled on the lives of real legionnaires, the film features a number of personalities known from the pages of history. Among them: brigadier Józef Piłsudski (Jan Frycz), lieutenant Stanisław Kaszubski pseud. "The King" (Mirosław Baka), captain Zbigniew Dunin-Wąsowicz (Borys Szyc), lieutenant Jerzy Topór-Kisielnicki (Antoni Pawlicki) and many others.
The producers of the film are Maciej Pawlicki and Adam Borowski. The script authors Tomasz Łysiak, Dariusz Gajewski, Michał Godzic and Maciej Pawlicki. Kino Świat is the Polish film distributor. Shooting for the film (almost 60 days in total) began in August 2017 and was completed in April 2019. The film's budget was PLN 27 million. Photos were implemented, among others in Bieszczady, Cieszyn, Tokarnia, Stradów, around Kraków, Mrągowo, Węgrów and Otwock. During the filming, no animals were harmed.
