"There must be heaven somewhere" is the return of Palestinian director Elia Suleiman after ten years of artistic silence. Called by many the heirs of Buster Keaton or Jacques Tati, he created an empirical, humorous and deep humanism story about a Palestinian identity and an attempt to escape from it.
The film was awarded the Special Jury Award and the FIPRESCI Award during the last Cannes festival. He is also a Palestinian candidate for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
IN CINEMA FROM 10 JANUARY 2020
The main character of the film, in which the director plays the role, ceases to feel comfortable in his family Nazareth. Innocent scys with his neighbor, disturbing acts of vandalism and growing aggression make him think about leaving.
He looks for new life and alternatives to his homeland in Paris, then in New York. It is not easy, however, because the thoughts of Palestine haunt him almost everywhere, and the tempting vision of a fresh start turns into a comedy of mistakes. A film business is similar to the hero, which Suleiman portrayed here in a grotesque way.
